Unemployment insurance and federal loans and relief are not available to undocumented immigrants, although they may be available to certain immigrants with work authorization.
Our community is working to address these gaps. Here are some reliable resources for immigrants:
- Mission Asset Fund (MAF) - $500 direct deposit for families ineligible for CARES rebates
- Undocufund SF - Local funding for immigrant families in San Francisco
- Legal Aid at Work—List of relief funds for undocumented workers in California
- Immigrants Rising—Tangible support for immigrants in need
- Informed Immigrant— Sign up for updates and access resource guides by location
Check back for updates to this list as new financial supports become available.
Resources for immigrants by local and state government:
- The State of California has launched the Disaster Relief Assistance for Immigrants (DRAI). Frequently asked questions (FAQs) can be found here. Locally, Catholic Charities of San Francisco will distribute limited recurring payments ($500, up to $1000 per household). Call 415-324-1011 from 8 AM - 8 PM, Mondays through Saturdays. An email address is needed in order to send required documentation that establishes 1) identity; 2) address and 3) impact by COVID. Money will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis through June 30th and will be loaded onto a debit card mailed to approved applicants.
- The City & County of San Francisco has committed some of its funding through the Give2SF Fund to support undocumented immigrants with direct cash assistance and rent payment assistance. Details on how to access these funds are not yet available, but are expected to be administered through application by local nonprofits. More is expected to be known in July.
Financial resources like those listed here are in high-demand. So, we encourage you to apply right away when new opportunities become available.
